4 weeks of Holiday Fun - Africa, Friendship, Beach and Superheroes

Summer 23

We had 4 weeks of themed activities for a fantastic fun Summer. Each week we had a trip out on either a coach or public transport, a cooking workshop, two sessions of sports coaching and loads of creative activities, team games, challenges and chill time.

24-28 July – Africa Week

Inspired by African culture, natural history and sporting events, this week celebrated the costume, art, dance, music, food, nature and sport of Africa. 

  • Trip to Manchester Museum to see the African natural history and artefacts on display 
  • African jewellery and mask making
  • Cooking workshop inspired by African ingredients and cuisine
  • Make African instruments
  • Water relay races
  • Clay and paint art 
  • Netball sports session to celebrate the Netball World Cup taking place in South Africa 
  • Safari role play area to find the big five 
  • African beats and dancing 
  • Team games and gym session

 31 July – 4 August – Friendship Week

As 30 July is International Friendship week across the world we created Kidszone's take on this with 5 days of team games, group activities and challenges to get everyone working together, celebrate the new friends they have made and have lots of active fun. 

  • Trip to a local park to have a picnic and team games with our friends 
  • Den building 
  • Local sports coach to run team games session
  • Kidszone gift workshop open Mon/Weds/Thurs/Fri - making friendship bracelets, lava lamps, soap bars and bookmarks
  • Make a giant friendship banner
  • Team treasure hunt
  • Cookery workshop working in pairs to create a yummy treat
  • Stone painting
  • Parachute team games
  • Water travelling challenges - work with friends to fill up your water containter  

7-11 August – Beach Week

Who doesn't love the beach in Summer? We recreated beach games, took inspiration from the sea and island holidays and had a day out to the beach.

  • Day trip to Southport beach to play on the sand, walk along the prom and eat lunch on the pier 
  • Make hand/feet sand prints
  • Cookery workshop to create a beach snack
  • Make ice lollies to keep us cool
  • Water fishing games and lots of water sensory fun
  • Beach volleyball (with a beach ball)
  • Beach theme treasure hunt
  • Sports sessions inspired by the beach and sea
  • Hawaiian themed bracelets, leis and hula music with our own ukeleles

14-18 August – Superheroes Week

We went superhero crazy and had a week finding out our superpowers with obstacle courses, gymnastic session, water challenges, celebrating our emergency services and a trip to test out our running, jumping and throwing powers! And did we mention a Superhero bouncy castle on the last day of holiday care.....?

  • Trip to Longford Park and Athletics track for Kidszone's Superhero Games (and picnic lunch and play in the park)
  • Emergency superheroes - first aid class and firefighter water challenge
  • Junk modelling superhero transport - wings, cars, jet packs  
  • Superfood cookery workshop
  • Gymnastics session to hone our superpowers
  • Superhero costume making
  • Superhero challenge obstacle course 
  • Superhero Party Day with party food, face painting and a bouncy castle

Easter Holiday Care (3-14 April)

Solve It! Week (3-6 April)

A week full of creative, physical and fun challenges getting us moving, thinking and working together plus a trip to Dino Golf to test ourselves on the amazing course.  

Mon 3 April - Lots of ice breaking team activity - team game 'blind building', obstacle course, team quiz and solve the mystery game. 

Tues 4 April - Gymnastics session with qualified coach, carnival cardboard challenge, ball travelling team game, throw the ring game

Weds 5 April - Trip to Dino Golf to play a round of golf on the craziest course ever

Thurs 6 April - Spaghetti and marshmallow towers game, build a giant maze outdoors and a cookery workshop in the afternoon with Sarah from Cookstars Manchester.

Spring Watch Week (11-14 April)  

A week of nature discovery, buglife, birdlife and planting and growing our own, plus a trip to a farm to see the animals.

Tues 11 April - Make our own binoculars and watch the birds, make potato hedgehogs and sports activity session with qualified coach.

Weds 12 April - Planting seeds to grown our own veggies, make a bug hotel and another cookery workshop with Sarah from Cookstars Manchester.

Thurs 13 April - Trip to the community farm at Wythenshawe Park where we will have lunch and a play in the afternoon

Fri 14 April - Make bird feeders, colours of the rainbow nature watch, spring watercolour painting and scavenger hunt to end the week!

The children can take part in as much of the themed activities as they want to and each day we will have board games, construction toys, Lego, books and outdoor sports equipment out to play with.

Design and Build Week

20-23 February 2023

Monday 20th

Construction site roleplay area, design our cardboard model village and start to build.... 

Tuesday 21st

Build a Bridge Challenge to cross the river - working in teams and with a variety of materials, plus Lego Robotics workshop in the afternoon.  Build forts and dens outdoors. 

Wednesday 22nd

Lego City Build, design, mix and bake our gingerbread houses ready for building and decorating on Thursday. 

Thursday 23rd

Design and make our own jigsaws and build and construct and decorate our gingerbread houses. Marble run fun - design and build our own marble runs using anything we can find, and outdoors we will have a 'topple the tower' challenge involving a penalty shootout and daring building skills! 

October 22 Half Term Holiday Care

Light and Sound Week

24-28 October 2022

We were delighted to run our first holiday care week 24-28 October 2022 based at Kidszone's new location at St Pauls CE Primary School, St Pauls Road, Withington. 

It was our 'Light and Sound' Week. The activities were:

  • Full day trip to the Science and Industry Museum via coach on Thurs 27 Oct where the Manchester Science Festival was taking place
  • Shadow Puppet theatre - make our own puppets and then we put on a show
  • Making our own sound instruments - using junk modelling
  • Creative art workshop on Tues 25 Oct we created a large scale artwork inspired by light and shade - working with artist Nate Frost
  • Invisible letter hunt - used torches to find the letters to make a word 
  • Light activated paper experiments with nature 
  • Lightwaves Festival art workshop - we created flowers out of recycled bottles and our work appeared as part of the festival at MediaCity 1-4 December!
  • Guess the everyday sound quiz
  • Sensory den - we explored with friends and played with the fun light and sound objects 
  • Glow in the dark Hama bead craft 
  • Plus there were light and sound themed team games outdoors to get everyone moving about whatever the weather! 

Summer 22 Holiday Care

Challenges, Commonwealth Games, Trains and Heroes! 

25 July - 19 August 2022

We had 4 weeks of themed activities for a fantastic Summer.

25-29 July – Challenge Week

A week of indoor and outdoor challenges– including balancing, building, getting messy and having a go! 

  • Full day trip to the amazing Crocky Trail near Chester with rides, slides and a mile-long trail with bridges, rope swings, balance beams crossing the Crocky stream. 
  • Scavenger Hunt– solve the clues to find the hidden objects – work in teams 
  • Water relay challenges – get wet and have fun and collect the most water for your team
  • Lego challenges – build the highest, longest, coolest, strongest structures and objects
  • Food challenges – guess the food from feeling, smelling and tasting it! (if you dare!)
  • Tower challenges – we love building things out of unusual things (marshmallow and spaghetti?)  

1 – 5 August – Commonwealth Games Week

For the Commonwealth Games week we had our own celebration of sport, culture and friendship. 

  • Trip to Longford Park Athletics Track, Chorlton – we hired the whole track and athletics equipment and we tried lots of different sports (with medals)!
  • Local sports coach ran two multi sports sessions at the Scout Hut
  • Smoothie making and food from the Commonwealth to make and taste
  • Painting flags of the Commonwealth 
  • Making friendship bracelets inspired by other commonwealth countries
  • Gym role play area – keep fit throughout the day and take an exercise class for fun!
  • Range of outdoor and indoor sports activities across the week including basketball, cricket, badminton, volleyball and table tennis 

8-12 August – Transport Week

Fun with trains, wheels, ships and much more. Everyone got to be a train driver and passenger this week!

  • Trip on a train and a woodland walk with a picnic
  • Role play – Kidszone Train Station, ticket office, be a conductor, driver or passenger – trains leaving every half hour!
  • Design paper ships and use wind power to race them
  • Make giant junk model train 
  • Train and bridge building challenge 
  • Wheel designing using straws 
  • Construction toy challenge – using Knex or Lego make the strongest and fastest vehicle

15-19 August – Heroes Week

We went superhero crazy and had fun with costumes, skills, family heroes and team games. 

  • Make our own Comic Books – design your own superhero and draw/write a story about them 
  • Mask making craft activity – use your favourite movie superhero as inspiration 
  • Hang out in the ‘Superhero secret hideout’ in our Superhero role play area
  • Take the Superhero Bowl challenge – a trip to Tenpin at Parrs Wood Entertainment centre for a game of bowling in our Spiderman and Ironman Superhero Teams 
  • Paint or draw your own Family hero posters 
  • Make and decorate our own Superhero biscuits 
  • Superhero Party Day with dressing up, face painting and a bouncy castle and special guests..
